Above the village of Obersteinbach in the Bas-Rhin, the ruins of Petit-Arnsberg castle cling to the rock that has supported them since the 14th century. Once a fief of Wissembourg abbey, this part-troglodyte stronghold still shows a massive shield wall and a doorway cut into the stone in 1494. Destroyed during the Thirty Years' War, it is reached today only on foot, through forest trails.
