# Château du Morimont

Oberlarg, Haut-Rhin, Grand Est

Château du Morimont stands in Oberlarg (Haut-Rhin), in the Grand Est region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 15th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Perched on a hill overlooking the Swiss border, the ruins of Morimont Castle bear witness to eight centuries of turbulent history, marked by repeated destruction and rebuilding. First raised in the 12th century and heavily reworked in the 15th and 16th centuries to withstand firearms, it was destroyed several times, by an earthquake and later by French troops during the Thirty Years' War. Visitors can still see the trapezoidal layout flanked by towers, a long 16th-century residential wing, and an entrance defended by a barbican and portcullis.
