On the outskirts of Carpentras, along the road to Mazan, the Château du Martinet still shows the neo-classical outline it gained during its 19th-century rebuilding, after being burned down during the French Revolution. The des Isnards family, who had owned the estate since 1628, had the main building erected on two levels, its north and south façades set against the natural slope of the land. The surrounding wall and courtyard of honour, completed in 1863, are said to have been built with stones taken from the town's old ramparts.
