# Château du Marchidial

Champeix, Puy-de-Dôme, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

Château du Marchidial stands in Champeix (Puy-de-Dôme), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 12th century : 13th century, 18th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Perched on a rocky spur above Champeix, the Marchidial castle survives only as ruins, set within gardens restored by local volunteers. The site preserves traces of a medieval stronghold that served as a residence of the dauphins of Auvergne in the 13th century, alongside a plain Romanesque church dating from the 12th century, later given a clock tower in the 18th century. Visitors come for the combination of fortification remains, the view over the village, and the former castle chapel turned parish church.
