# Château du Lude

Jouy-le-Potier, Loiret, Centre-Val de Loire

Château du Lude stands in Jouy-le-Potier (Loiret), in the Centre-Val de Loire region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: fourth quarter of the 19th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

The château du Lude comes into view only after crossing a set of outbuildings gathered around a garden-planted courtyard, where lodgings, barns, a chapel and an orangery stand before the main house itself appears. Surrounded by moats fed by the Cosson river, the L-shaped building owes its current appearance to a substantial late 19th-century restoration carried out by the artist Maurice Bastide, who added carved dormer windows and decoration inspired by the Renaissance style of Touraine. The site itself has been occupied since Gallo-Roman times and went through considerable upheaval, including the demolition of its medieval keep during the Wars of Religion. The landscaped park surrounding it has been a protected site since 1945.
