# Château du Hohenbourg

Wingen, Bas-Rhin, Grand Est

Château du Hohenbourg stands in Wingen (Bas-Rhin), in the Grand Est region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: second quarter of the 16th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The Hohenbourg castle stands in ruins above the forest of Wingen, in the northern Bas-Rhin, close to the border with the German Palatinate. Built into the rock face in the 13th century and later altered in the 16th century, it still shows a substantial horseshoe-shaped artillery bastion and a Renaissance gateway. The site can only be reached on foot, along forest trails, and its terrace opens onto a wide view over the Northern Vosges.
