# Château du Grand-Arnsberg

Baerenthal, Moselle, Grand Est

Château du Grand-Arnsberg stands in Baerenthal (Moselle), in the Grand Est region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 12th century). Admission is free. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Set on a rocky ridge deep in the Philippsbourg forest, the Grand-Arnsberg castle still holds its keep almost intact above its ruins, between the villages of Bærenthal and Zinswiller. Built in the 12th century to defend the Haguenau residence, it was dismantled during the Thirty Years' War. Visitors can see remnants of curtain walls, a well hewn into the rock, and traces of a wall walk, all set within an untamed forest landscape.
