# Château du Fauga

Port-Sainte-Foy-et-Ponchapt, Dordogne, Nouvelle-Aquitaine

Château du Fauga stands in Port-Sainte-Foy-et-Ponchapt (Dordogne), in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 18th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

At the edge of Le Fleix, the château du Fauga is easily identified by its round tower topped with a stone dome, flanked by a central block and two wings. Now part of a wine estate, the property was in the 18th century a gathering place for persecuted Protestants, who held their clandestine open-air assemblies here. Above the main entrance door, a carved fern leaf recalls the origin of the name Fauga, which means fern in old French.
