# Château des Bruyères

The château des Bruyères was a manor house that once stood in what is now the town of Les Lilas, near the junction of Avenue Pasteur and Rue Chassagnole. Built at the end of the 17th century on the site of an older residence, surrounded by a formal French garden and an orangery, it belonged among others to the Duke of Lorges and later to Louis II de Rohan-Chabot. Bought in 1760 by a Parisian roofer, it was torn down so its stones could be sold off, leaving only the chapel and the orangery standing into the 19th century.
