# Château des Anglais d'Autoire

Autoire, Lot, Occitanie

Château des Anglais d'Autoire stands in Autoire (Lot), in the Occitanie region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 11th century, 12th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Set beneath a cliff on the causse plateau, the château des Anglais overlooks the village of Autoire from a fortified rock shelter dating back to the Middle Ages. What remains today, a roofless dwelling and a small tower, is only a fragment of a much larger complex that once included a fortified village of twenty-two houses. The name recalls the English companies who held the site during the Hundred Years' War, though its origins go back to the 11th or 12th century. The cliff face is now also used as a climbing site with numerous marked routes.
