Château de Wendel stands in Hayange (Moselle), in the Grand Est region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: first quarter of the 18th century, 19th century, second quarter of the 20th century). In Hayange, what is usually called the Wendel château is, strictly speaking, no longer a château at all: the original residence, left in ruins, was demolished in 2007, and a contemporary steel-and-glass building has stood on its footprint since 2015, linking the two surviving older wings. Visitors come here more for the story of Lorraine's iron and steel industry than for intact eighteenth-century architecture: only the dovecote, the entrance gates and the main portal still recall the house built after Jean-Martin Wendel bought the local forges in 1704. The site now houses the offices of the Val de Fensch urban community.
