In the commune of Ruch, in the Gironde department, the château de Vaure stands in an outlying spot north of the village, surrounded by moats on three sides. Built at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries on the site of an earlier building destroyed in 1587, it consists of three wings arranged around a square courtyard, with three massive corner pavilions. In one corner of the courtyard, a stone-balustraded terrace rests on a basket-handle vault, typical of 17th-century work.
