Perched on a hill above Laissey and the Doubs valley, the ruins of the château de Vaite recall a medieval stronghold built by the Montfaucon family in the 13th century. Burned in the late 15th century and later rebuilt by the Lallemand family, it withstood several sieges before being demolished on the orders of the Doubs departmental council in 1793. What remains today is a broken tower, a cistern and stretches of ramparts pierced with arrow slits, reached by a climb that rewards visitors with a wide view over the valley.
