The Château de Theyrargues stands in the commune of Rivières, in the Gard department, a remnant of a fourteenth-century stronghold that once helped guard the western approaches to Avignon. Of the original four-towered quadrangle only the west wing remains, flanked by two large round towers whose present battlements were added in the early twentieth century. Still owned by the same family, the estate suffered a fire during the Revolution and was rebuilt at the very start of the nineteenth century.
