At Gradignan, on the southern edge of Bordeaux, the château de Tauzia stands at the end of an avenue of century-old plane trees, set back from the Bayonne road. Built in the late 18th century to designs by Victor Louis, the architect of Bordeaux's Grand Théâtre, this former chartreuse-style house was later enlarged in the 19th century into a full château, with its side pavilions and its English-style park laid out by Louis-Bernard Fischer. The central rotunda, topped with a dome, and its stucco decoration and wood mosaic flooring rank among the most notable interior features.
