# Château de Saint-Izaire

Saint-Izaire, Aveyron, Occitanie

Château de Saint-Izaire stands in Saint-Izaire (Aveyron), in the Occitanie region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: first half of the 14th century, 17th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Built in the 14th century above a bend of the Dourdou river, this castle served as the summer residence of the bishops of Vabres and, at times, as a refuge in troubled periods. Behind its massive red stone walls stand a chapel decorated with medieval murals, a bishop's chamber topped by a 17th-century coffered ceiling, and spiral staircases that reflect the building's successive alterations. Owned by the municipality since 1988, the building now houses the town hall along with a small museum devoted to local history.
