# Château de Romefort

Château de Romefort stands in Ciron (Indre), in the Centre-Val de Loire region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: fourth quarter of the 12th century, second half of the 19th century). The building is not open to visitors.

On the left bank of the Creuse river, in Ciron, the château de Romefort features a keep raised at the end of the 12th century to watch over a ford. The whole complex, altered over the centuries and restored in troubadour style between 1872 and 1877, combines a seigneurial residence with defensive structures on a quadrangular plan flanked by four towers. Visitors come for the medieval military architecture as well as for its history, marked notably by Father de Foucauld's conversion within these walls.
