# Château de Prye

La Fermeté, Nièvre, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté

Château de Prye stands in La Fermeté (Nièvre), in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: fourth quarter of the 19th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The château de Prye stands in the Ixeure valley, in the commune of La Fermeté, within a wooded estate of 156 hectares enclosed by seven kilometres of walls. Built on medieval foundations, it was rebuilt in the 17th century and then thoroughly remodelled at the end of the 19th century under architect Massillon-Rouvet, for the du Bourg de Bozas family. Visitors can see two main wings joined by a vaulted gallery, a hexagonal tower, marble-faced stables inspired by Versailles, and grounds laid out by landscape designer Edouard André. The whole estate, including its outbuildings and enclosing walls, is protected as a listed historic monument.
