> Le château a été construit pendant la guerre de Cent Ans : il consistait alors en une maison forte entourée de hautes murailles et de fossés secs qui se remplissaient en fonction de l'inondation des marais. Dans la seconde moitié du 17e siècle, le château a été entouré d'une plate-forme bastionnée à la Vauban. Les quatre angles de la plate-forme ont été bastionnés et surmontés d'échauguettes. Trois vastes bassins semi-circulaires ont été installés au centre des côtés ; ils sont entourés de degrés de pierre supportant des statues. Il s'agit plutôt d'un ensemble décoratif inspiré des fortifications classiques, à la manière de Vauban.
