Overlooking the Dordogne valley at Saint-Seurin-de-Prats, the Château de Pitray is a 17th-century residence raised on an old mound, from which it takes its name, derived from an old term meaning a raised point of land. A carved stone on site records an earlier building dating back to 1626. Originally formed of two perpendicular wings framing a courtyard open toward the river, the house gained a central block and an Italian-style terrace lined with pilasters in the early 20th century, added by an architect from Bordeaux. Held for over two centuries by the Puch and then the Ségur families, the estate now hosts events and gatherings of various kinds.
