In Saint-Thégonnec Loc-Eguiner, the ruins of the Château de Penhoat recall a medieval stronghold said to have been founded in the 13th century by a lord of Penhoat returning from crusade. What remains today, two sections of cylindrical towers and a stretch of curtain wall built of schist rubble, actually dates from the 15th century, when the fortress was reworked to withstand artillery. The site was largely destroyed during the Wars of the League, yet the outline of its moats and outer courtyard can still be traced on the ground.
