# Château de Nuits

Nuits, Yonne, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté

Château de Nuits stands in Nuits (Yonne), in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: fourth quarter of the 16th century, first quarter of the 19th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

On the banks of the Armançon river, between Tonnerre and Montbard, the château de Nuits stands with its twin pavilions in a Renaissance style still shaped by the wars of religion. Built at the end of the 16th century by François de Chenu, the building retains loopholes, arrow slits and traces of artillery fire on its eastern façade, while the western side, remodelled in the 19th century, opens much more gracefully onto a park laid out in the English manner. Visitors can sense this deliberate contrast between defensive strength and residential refinement, a legacy of the changes made by the Marquise de La Guiche.
