# Château de Montréal

Montréal, Ardèche, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

Château de Montréal stands in Montréal (Ardèche), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: Middle Ages, 16th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Perched on a rocky spur above the fortified village of Montréal in the Ardèche region, this castle combines a twenty-five-metre medieval keep with a Renaissance residence built around an inner courtyard. Raised from the 12th century onward to watch over the routes leading to the silver mines of Largentière, it retains its rusticated stonework, arrow slits and a postern guarding access to the keep. The inner courtyard, with its well, gallery and spiral staircase dated 1559, shows the clearest contrast between the two building periods.
