Perched on a rocky spur above the Doubs valley, the ruins of Montjoie-le-Château castle recall a stronghold built at the end of the 12th century to watch over a narrow river passage. The pentagonal keep, still partly standing, overlooks a site with remaining wall sections, collapsed cellars and a Romanesque-Gothic chapel dedicated to Saint George. Fireplaces, a hand-washing basin and latrines can still be seen inside the keep's floors, tangible reminders of seigneurial life.
