At Montguyon, the ruins of a medieval stronghold still stand on a rocky spur that once carried a drawbridge. First recorded in the 11th century, the site was fought over during the Hundred Years' War, held as a Protestant stronghold during the Wars of Religion, and visited several times by Henri de Navarre, later Henri IV. A fire in 1793 and a partial collapse in 1982 left only part of the tower and main building standing, though the old stables and ramparts, restored by local heritage groups, can also be seen.
