Perched on the edge of a plateau above the Couze river, Montferrand castle overlooks a crossing of old roads in the Périgord region. Its origins date to the 12th century, when the Biron family settled here after handing down their original castle to their descendants, the Gontaut-Biron. Traces remain of a square keep and two enclosures separated by a moat, typical of the defensive architecture of the area. The site has also served as a filming location for the series Draculi & Gandolfi.
