The château de Miramont stands in Adast, in the Hautes-Pyrénées, on the site of a 10th-century stronghold built for the first viscount of Lavedan. The present building, raised between the late 17th and early 18th century for Gabrielle Caubotte de Miramont, owes much of its fame to her son, the poet Cyprien Despourrins, who lived there until his death in 1759. Its four-storey façade, with a raised central section topped by triangular pediments pierced with oculus windows and flanked by two symmetrical wings, is best appreciated from the outside, as the property remains privately owned. Passed down through the Despourrins and Abadie-Gaye families, it was bought in 1906 by the surgeon François Calot and, in the late 1960s, by the broadcaster Jacques Chancel, whose family still owns it today.
