# Château de Meslay

Meslay, Loir-et-Cher, Centre-Val de Loire

Château de Meslay stands in Meslay (Loir-et-Cher), in the Centre-Val de Loire region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: second quarter of the 18th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Built beside the Loir river between 1732 and 1735, Meslay château replaced a medieval stronghold where Henri IV stayed during the siege of Vendôme in 1589. Architect Jules-Michel Hardouin, working in the tradition of Hardouin-Mansart and Gabriel, gave it stone façades punctuated by a projecting central section decorated with carved masks, beneath a Mansard roof. The estate also includes a landscaped park, an enclosed kitchen garden, a dovecote and an ice house, remnants of a wide-ranging planning scheme that led to the rebuilding of the neighbouring village.
