In Lanquais, in the Périgord pourpre, a fortified 15th-century dwelling stands next to an unfinished Renaissance wing built from the 1560s for Galliot de La Tour. The contrast is visible in the courtyard: on one side a round tower with machicolations and the defences of a medieval stronghold, on the other classical façades with string courses, corner stones and pedimented dormers, sometimes compared to the Lescot wing of the Louvre. The interiors still hold their original ceilings, floors, woodwork and carved chimneypieces.
