Perched on a mound above the village of La Tour-Blanche-Cercles, what remains of this 12th-century fortress is a square keep built of pale stone, a stretch of curtain wall and a secondary tower. Standing at 150 metres, the ruin is visited chiefly for its silhouette against the sky and the view over the surrounding Périgord countryside. The stronghold survived the Wars of Religion and a 1652 siege, but a fire in 2015 destroyed the inhabited south wing.
