# Château de la Roque

Meyrals, Dordogne, Nouvelle-Aquitaine

Château de la Roque stands in Meyrals (Dordogne), in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 12th century, 13th century, 16th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

Perched above the Moulant valley in the Périgord noir, this castle grew without following a regular plan, combining round towers with machicolations, a square keep and a Renaissance-style wing. The site is linked to Christophe de Beaumont, Archbishop of Paris, who was born here and later exiled to the castle in the eighteenth century. Its main draw is the oratory inside the square tower, its walls and vault covered with early paintings depicting the Passion and an Annunciation.

**No visits on record.** No opening hours or ticketing found.
