In Mauléon, in the Deux-Sèvres, the ruins of the Durbelière recall a former manor built by the Rorthais family and later the Meulles, reworked in the 15th and 17th centuries before being destroyed by fire during the Vendée wars. The site owes its fame to Henri de La Rochejaquelein, leader of the Catholic and Royal army, born there in 1772, whose presence led to the château being burned five times in 1793 and 1794. What remains today are the moats, a dovecote, outbuildings and ruined walls still marked by the original watchtowers and loopholes. A scale model kept at the town hall of Saint-Aubin-de-Baubigné shows what the building looked like before its destruction.
