In La Chèze, in the Côtes-d'Armor, stand the ruins of a fortress begun in the mid-12th century by Eudon II, later reworked by Olivier de Clisson at the end of the 14th century and then by Jean II de Rohan. The polygonal keep, still rising some seventeen metres over two surviving levels, overlooks the remains of curtain walls, round towers and an underground passage cut into the rock. The former moats, now filled in, have become a walking path around the site.
