The Château de l'Esparrou stands above the Canet-Saint-Nazaire lagoon, at the edge of the village of Canet-en-Roussillon on the road to Saint-Cyprien. Built at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries for a Perpignan magistrate turned winegrower, it reflects the neo-Gothic taste that Danish architect Viggo Dorph-Petersen brought to the local bourgeoisie. Its two pepper-pot towers, glazed winter garden and park of Mediterranean trees give it a distinctive silhouette from the road. The estate remains a working vineyard today.
