# Château de Greifenstein

Saverne, Bas-Rhin, Grand Est

Château de Greifenstein stands in Saverne (Bas-Rhin), in the Grand Est region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 12th century, 13th century, 14th century, 15th century). No visits are on record for this building.

Perched on a rocky spur in the Saverne forest, the Greifenstein ruins are actually the remains of two separate castles, built centuries apart and divided by a deep ditch. The site is notable for its keep, the widest in Alsace at thirteen metres across, and for the view from the central tower over Saverne, the Haut-Barr and the Zorn valley. Access is on foot along the Vosges forest trails, and the appeal lies in the wooded, ruined setting rather than in a restored building.

**No visits on record.** No opening hours or ticketing found.
