# Château de Donzy

Salt-en-Donzy, Loire, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

Château de Donzy stands in Salt-en-Donzy (Loire), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Perched on a hillock overlooking the Forez plain, the ruins of Donzy castle stand in an isolated setting beside the Charpassonne stream, a short distance from the village of Salt-en-Donzy. Built on a square plan flanked by three large towers, it served as a stronghold for the counts of Forez and later the Bourbons, before being torn down in 1603 at the request of local residents. Visitors today find remains overtaken by vegetation, an older chapel that has survived in better condition, and a medieval garden being recreated since 2014.
