The square building seen today combines a 12th-century base, identifiable by its twin-arched windows, with 16th-century additions: crenellations, machicolations and corner turrets. The entrance gate, decorated with an Ionic order topped by a broken pediment, dates from this same later period. The whole structure underwent a lengthy restoration between 1996 and 2018.
