In the village of Mercury, just behind the church, the château de Chevron shows a 14th-century west façade pierced with arrow slits and mullioned windows, a remnant of the stronghold the Chevron Villette family built after their earlier castle burned down. A short distance away stand the remains of a castle chapel with a ribbed vault, once dedicated to Saint Catherine. The site also carries a more recent memory: during the Second World War its owners hid a Jewish family of ten people here, an act later honoured with the title of Righteous Among the Nations.
