> Selon la tradition, le roi Jean le Bon aurait été enfermé dans la salle basse de la tour d'entrée, au lendemain de la bataille de Poitiers, en 1356. L'édifice appartient au type des châteaux fortifiés. Il se compose de deux tours d'entrée datant du 14e siècle avec, de part et d'autre, des bâtiments s'étendant l'un au nord avec retour en équerre, l'autre au sud-ouest. Le système défensif (courtines, tours) a en partie disparu.
