Argentine, Savoie, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

Château de Castagnery stands in Argentine (Savoie), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. No visits are on record for this building.

The château de Castagnery stands in the commune of Argentine, in Savoie, and takes its name from a family of Turin-born industrialists ennobled in the late 16th century. This family built its fortune on iron ore mining and the production of wire and edged weapons in the Maurienne valley, before rising to major offices within the Duchy of Savoy. The name Castagnery de Châteauneuf, adopted after the family acquired the barony of Châteauneuf in 1639, reflects the rise of a dynasty of ironmasters who went on to become senators, ambassadors and provosts of merchants in Paris.
