# Château de Carlux

Carlux, Dordogne, Nouvelle-Aquitaine

Château de Carlux stands in Carlux (Dordogne), in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument. Admission is free. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The château de Carlux stands above the Dordogne river, its remaining walls carrying nearly a thousand years of Périgord history. Once held by the viscounts of Turenne, fought over by English and French forces during the Hundred Years' War, partly demolished on the order of Louis XI, and later used as a Protestant stronghold, it lost part of its structure in the 19th century when a road was built through the site. Owned by the town since 1992, it now shows the surviving fragments of a fortress reshaped across centuries.
