# Château de Cardet

Château de Cardet stands in Cardet (Gard), in the Occitanie region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 18th century). The building is not open to visitors.

The Château de Cardet stands in the Gard village of the same name, at the foot of the Cévennes, on an estate held by the same family since the 14th century. Its present layout, with the horseshoe-shaped entrance and the courtyard separating the manor from the farm buildings, dates largely from the early 18th century, while two round towers and a rusticated doorway still recall 17th-century construction. Inside, the Italian-style staircase, the painted and stuccoed decoration of the dining room, and wallpaper attributed to the Réveillon workshop around 1780 make up the surviving decorative scheme. The park, laid out in the 19th century, contains an older nymphaeum and a water wheel already mentioned in mid-17th-century records.
