# Château de Branzac

Château de Branzac stands in Pleaux (Cantal), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 15th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Perched on a rocky spur above the Maronne valley, the ruins of Branzac castle still show two large round towers and a Renaissance residential wing with mullioned windows. Built in the mid-15th century as a hunting manor, the site retains fragments of Italian frescoes painted in 1575, along with humanist mottoes commissioned by Camille Caracciolo. One corner of the building was blown up with dynamite in the 19th century to supply stone for the nearby railway viaduct. A recent owner has undertaken work to clear and stabilise the remaining walls.
