In Bournazel, in the Aveyron department, stands a Renaissance château built in the second quarter of the 16th century on the remains of an earlier fortress, of which two medieval towers still frame the entrance. Left unfinished after the death of the master builder in charge, the structure forms two wings meeting at a right angle, with doric and ionic orders stacked on the facades. Restored since 2007 by its current owners, it now houses a vaulted staircase, collections of 16th- and 17th-century paintings and furniture, and a chapel with an altarpiece by Claude Vignon. The site also hosts artists' residencies and an underground auditorium.
