Of the medieval stronghold that once overlooked Boissezon, only a single turret survives, now built into the south wall of the transept of the Saint-Jean-Baptiste church. This is the fragment visitors come to see, the last trace of a fortress raised by the Trencavel lords and burned down in 1575 during the Wars of Religion. Across from it stands a fort of the same period, now home to a museum, the Militarial, which makes for a natural extension of the visit.
