# Château de Belval

Belval-Bois-des-Dames, Ardennes, Grand Est

Château de Belval stands in Belval-Bois-des-Dames (Ardennes), in the Grand Est region of France. No visits are on record for this building.

The château de Belval stands on the site of a former abbey of Augustinian canons, founded in the 1120s at the edge of the Ardennes forest, between the villages of Belval-Bois-des-Dames and Vaux-en-Dieulet. Set in a hollow clearing fed by natural springs, the site supported nearly seven centuries of monastic life before being sold as national property during the Revolution. The abbey church, dismantled by the State from 1795, no longer stands, but the estate still bears traces of this long religious and industrial past, including a mill, a forge and several ponds.
