Bellegarde, Loiret, Centre-Val de Loire

Château de Bellegarde stands in Bellegarde (Loiret), in the Centre-Val de Loire region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: second half of the 14th century, 17th century, first quarter of the 18th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

In Bellegarde, in the Loiret, a square fourteenth-century keep still stands at the heart of a former stronghold that belonged first to the Braque family, then to the l'Hospital lords. The site went through several lives: a medieval fortress, the seat of the dukes of Bellegarde, then a residence remodelled in the early eighteenth century by the Duke of Antin, son of Madame de Montespan, who added new pavilions and private apartments. Part of the buildings now house the town hall, while others are used for exhibitions, so visitors can walk through the successive courtyards and façades.
