The château de Bellechasse stands in Saint-Pierre-de-Jards, in the Indre department, on a bend of the Herbon river, in the heart of the Champagne berrichonne region. Built in the 19th century to replace the former château de la Guichonnerie, owned by the Gaignault de Beaulieu family since 1771, it is best known for its 24-hectare landscaped park. These grounds were laid out by the landscape designer Paul de Lavenne de Choulot for Sophie de Villesaison, a descendant of the Gaignault family, who designed several hundred parks across France and Europe in the 19th century. The château remains private property today.
