Beaufort, Savoie, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

Château de Beaufort stands in Beaufort (Savoie), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. No visits are on record for this building.

On the Vanches plateau near Beaufort, in the Savoie region, stand the remains of a medieval fortress said to date back to the early 10th century, associated with Bernard de Beaufort. From the 14th century the site became the seat of a lordship held by the sires of Faucigny, before taking on a religious role from 1536 onward thanks to its chapel, known as Notre-Dame-des-Châteaux. It should not be confused with the nearby château de La Sallaz, on the opposite bank of the Argentine river. The site will appeal to those interested in ruins and the feudal past of the Beaufortain valley.
