In Bâgé-le-Châtel, in the Ain department, a single residential wing remains from the former castle of the lords of Bâgé, first mentioned in the early 11th century. The stronghold took its later shape in the 14th century, with fortifications, a great square tower and a round tower, though the façade seen today was rebuilt in the 19th century. Two stained-glass windows installed around 1860 can be seen in the ground-floor and upper-floor openings.
